Papers of the Murrell family [manuscript] 1704-1886.

Business correspondence and records, 1816-58 of the mercantile firm of John D. Murrell and Hardin Murrell of Lynchburg, Va. who were also engaged in farming in Va. and La. Correspondence concerns merchandise, tobacco, slaves and agriculture in Va. and Louisiana. Letters, 1840's, from L. Hewitt, plantation manager of Tally Ho, near New Orleans, describes crops, esp, sugar cane, and work done there. There is personal correspondence from various members of the family, incl. O.G. Murrell, of Tenn. and Miss., and David Deaderick of Tenn. [ca. 1 ft.]. Collection also inculdes family photographs, books and pamphlets [ca. 20 items] and ca. 50 issues of the Lynchburg Virginian of Civil War vintage. The collection also contains one leaf from an unidentified [French?] medieval manuscript [12th century?].
